Archival linen backed with the original U. S. Government poster with the restored fold marks (for mailing). The image of an American soldier in his combat uniform is shown standing in front of the Declaration of War signed by President Roosevelt. An American soldier is pointing at the viewer superimposed over the image of the Joint Resolution of Congress, signed by President Franklin Roosevelt and Vice-President Henry Wallace, that declared War on Japan. The major color pattern in this image is red, white, and black. War bonds, sold at banks, post offices, and other financial institutions across the country, were an $18.75 investment. Those who might not be able to afford the cost all at once could purchase ten-cent stamps that were then collected in a Treasury-approved booklet until they totaled enough for a war savings bond. By the war's end, more than 85 million Americans, out of a population of 139 million, had purchased bonds.
