This iconic Los Angeles travel poster was designed by the renowned artist Howard Koslow in 1965. Koslow was celebrated for his vibrant and expressive style, which often featured bold colors and modernist interpretations of popular landscapes and landmarks. This artwork perfectly encapsulates the sunny, glamorous vibe of Los Angeles during the mid-century modern era. It highlights LA’s quintessential features, such as lush palm trees, rolling neighborhoods, and backyard pools, all set against a blazing golden sun. The mid-century modern aesthetic of the piece highlights an idyllic suburban paradise, depicting Los Angeles as a dream destination of style, leisure, and iconic California sunshine. This poster was originally part of promotional art designed to attract travelers to the city and has since become a cherished collector's item and symbol of the era. Howard Koslow, a painter and illustrator, designed many of the most recognizable stamps issued by the United States Postal Service for over four decades. This includes a 1994 series featuring famous blues and jazz musicians, along with 30 stamps depicting coastal lighthouses. Throughout his lengthy career, he designed over 50 stamps and postal cards on subjects such as the signing of the Constitution, Carnegie Hall, the Brooklyn Bridge, Ellis Island, and, as part of the “Legends of American Music” series, eight blues and jazz masters: Robert Johnson, Bessie Smith, Muddy Waters, Ma Rainey, Jimmy Rushing, Howlin’ Wolf, Billie Holiday, and Mildred Bailey. Some of Koslow's works are displayed at the United States Air Force Academy and The Pentagon. Several of his paintings commissioned by NASA are exhibited at the National Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C., as well as at the NASA Art Gallery in Kennedy Space Center. Koslow was also an apprentice to French poster artist Jean Carlu. This is an original vintage lithograph poster and not a reproduction.
