Additional Information: | Original silkscreen poster, This poster was published by the San Francisco Opera for its 1996 performance of Strauss's Die Fledermaus. The production ran for 5 days culminating on New Year's Eve which was dubbed as "Prince Orolfsky's Masquerade Ball". A great evening for "seduction, trickery and betrayal" is promised "with a lot of singing and dancing in between". The poster design is a tantalizing reimagination of Cheret's "La Diaphane" featuring Sarah Bernhardt. The coquettish pose remains as eye-catching today as it was 100 years earlier. |
