America's first women soldiers who served on the front lines as telephone operators celebrated the end of WWI along with their male peers in the US Army Signal Corps. Upon returning home, the 223 women who served became known as the Hello Girls and were denied veteran status. Six decades later, President Jimmy Carter signed the order granting the few surviving Hello Girls full veteran status. Today, as we remember our Veterans and the 100th anniversary of the end of WWI, we also recognize the heroics of our first women soldiers, the Hello Girls.
