Richard Amsel

Richard Amsel (1947-1985)

Amsel was an American illustrator and graphic designer who designed movie posters, album art and magazine covers.  He designed some of the most popular films of the 1970s including Chinatown, The Last Picture Show, The Last Tycoon, The Muppet Movie, Murder on the Orient Express, The Sting, Flash Gordon and The Dark Crystal. His best known poster design is the one he did for Raiders of the Lost Ark (both the original release poster in 1981 as well as the 1982 re-release). The last poster Amsel designed was for Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome.
